Pedal for Prostate: Day 9 Sunday 23rd May
Breakfast on the bus at 6am to try and save some time.. Mmmm Tuna sandwiches?? Lozza you would have loved them.
Drove a few km’s out of town to beat some of the Phnom Penh traffic then back on the bikes to start our longest day, 92kms.
Rode to the temples at Udong and were met by a sea of children who followed us in. We soon learnt the deal. They were our unofficial guides for the day. We climbed the 509 steps to the temple and then got a very detailed description of the surrounding area by our guides some of them as young as 9. Their knowledge of Cambodia and the English language was impressive to say the least, given their age.
Said our goodbyes and jumped back on the bikes to complete the next 57 kms. The first section wasn’t too bad but as the road heated up so did we. Everyone was feeling the heat by the 75km mark.
We regrouped under a shady tree before heading off to do the final 17. As the end was in sight half the group formed a small pack and worked together by drafting taking it in turns at the front.. It was no Tour De France move but we had a lot of fun riding in the pack and when we pulled up to the restaurant we all felt a sense of achievement.
